SuSi XPed – Ready to explore

SuSi is back. Back to its original roots: an all-round glider, light and fun.

The SuSi XPed is the first product from the Expedition series (XPed) to be introduced.
Since the SuSi has its name and created its own class of gliders, the name XPed calls itself for being the lightest and toughest equipment for the most extreme and remote adventures. Weighing in at just 1.62 kg and designed for exploration, the SuSi XPed is also featuring an elevated sense of enjoyment. After all, that’s what it’s all about.

Feel. Explore. And enjoy!

By making the SuSi lighter and much faster while keeping its DNA, we allow the pilots to go much further in all their projects. Designer

The first generation of the SuSi (Super Simple) had no certification, only load-tested. It was originally built by our designer only for himself because Stephan wanted a wing for hike-and-fly which should be light, simple but performing. By getting the EN-A certification in most sizes, the fourth generation of the SuSi enables beginners to safely use this iconic glider as their first. The SuSi XPed does not replace the SuSi 4. It completes our range by aiming at more experienced pilots but still remaining certified in all its sizes! Whoop whoop!

Construction & Features

Double-coated Dominico DOKDO-10DSF for top and bottom surfaces. A choice that has proven itself in our Superlight gliders range.

Optimized internal structure to save weight. Each gram counts!

Unsheathed, hydrophobic and color-coded Aramid 8001 Magix Pro Dry lines. Solidity has never been so easy to untangle.

Ground attachment loops on the leading edge to prevent the paraglider from slipping on a steep and/or slippery slope (snow).

Evident inflation, efficient lift: ideal for short and tricky takeoffs.

Delivered in a VacPack, the latter ensures a reduced volume in your rucksack but should not be used to store the glider.

Our Superlight series focuses on building lightweight gliders having durability and usability in mind. Our new XPed series takes one step further and aims to reduce everything to its minimum – with functionality and practicality. The SuSi XPed is the first product to be launched, it is the lightest SuSi ever but still reliable in every situation.

SuSi 4

Another crazy early morning alarm bell. Bright light in from behind the curtains. Time to wake up again, but… hey! Today is holiday! Today I’m going out!

Going out, where I love the most being, out in the skies over snow caped mountains. I love it. I love it when he’s taking me there!

Wake up, little SuSi, he’s telling me, today is the big day. Today is SuSi day, you’ll meet lots of sisters up on the peaks!

Funny coincidence: the radio is playing this cover from Siouxsie & The Banshees – The Passenger I take it as a sign for another great journey with my beloved Passenger!

Well, what shall I report about the hiking and the flying… you already know well about it. Just enjoy the nature and enjoy your flight! That’s my style. When we meet with other couples at the parking lot before the hike, I’m surprised that I have quite some bigger and smaller sisters. And climbing up in the forest, then the fields, this bit of cliffs, we all exchange about life, nature, gliding, thermalling, competitions, speeding, all the fun we have.

And true, sometimes couples can be odd: this light casual pilot with a larger sister, this sporty shapy (mmmmh) pilot with my tiny sister… all sharing a same, same but different fun at the same time, in the same place. Louise just got her license last month. Flying with SuSi A. Johnny (aaaah, Johnny), the Himalayan survival guy, top fit, flying tiny SuSi D. All these other friends enjoying also SuSi B like me, and SuSi C of course.

Time to fly now. Let me enjoy it and I call you later!

The sun sets and turns into shades of orange and finally red. What a cliché, but I love it every time! One last SuSi sister is landing with her passenger. Ron and SuSi B just come back flying a nice triangle cross country style into the flats and back. The smile on Ron’s face reminds everybody else what this simple but amazing day brought us. We all love it, and I love my Passenger!

Super Simple fun from A to D

How to describe SuSi 4…

…in one word?
Unlimited

…in one image?
All these SuSi passengers being so different and sharing the same fun.

…in one dream?
Taking my passenger on a bike world tour, flying high, mountains, dune soaring, XC and so much more.

Why is SuSi now the Superlight-option for the EAZY?

Actually, the EAZY was built from SuSi. The SuSi concept has been proven over the past years to be safe and funny – so, it was obvious to design the EAZY based on SuSi. On the latest SuSi nothing changed much from perspective of agility, speed and fun but we closed the gap to the EAZY by certifying it into EN-A – bringing the worlds together!

Designer’s words…

Again, the story repeats. The Super Simple glider runs into its 4th generation. Development prolonged with tons of innovations like the BC-control and ratings in the EN-A. And still offering its now infamous flying sensation. I am stoked to have been able to redefine this glider and widen the usability of the wing again.

I remember the first generation of the SuSi which had no certification (only load-tested). I built it only for myself because I wanted a wing for hike&fly which should be light, simple but performing.
Today it still offers its typical flying sensations, it’s more robust than ever, and pilots all around the world can rely on the SuSi like they do since so many years!

Stephan Stiegler
Designer

What’s New?

Not that much of the spirit, but in construction details, a lot!

Improving the SuSi recipe, the glider feels more balanced overall. The starting behavior is even improved (yes!), rolling is more controlled. Full bar, the canopy has become more stable even with a glider being faster.

It got a fully working BC-riser control system over light or super light risers– it’s by the way a matter of weight or comfort which ones you use, it’s up to your choice.

And, in the standard loading we still achieved an EN-A rating (on most sizes), so newcomers to the sport can confidently fly the SuSi as their first glider. Surprise, surprise!

How small can it get?

SuSi 3 16 was the smallest EN-B certified glider in the world, now SuSi 4 14 definitely takes the lead (it’s only 12.18m2 projected)! And SuSi 4 18 is certified EN-A… AirDesign is definitely the specialist for small certified gliders. There is always a SuSi your size, whether you want to fly fast and furious, or smooth and peaceful whatever your weight is.

Construction & Features

Double coated Skytex, doubled seams, etching tape on edges and new nose guard patches: robustness is the key.

Unsheathed Aramid but color-coded lines! Solidity has never been so easy to untangle.

Shark nose with un bendable Nitinol rods not only to save weight and increase robustness, but also to help for a more compact folding… To slip it more easily into your tiny rucksack.

On the leading edge, ground attachment loops help to prevent the paraglider from slipping on a steep and/or slippery slope (snow).

Seamless razor edge with mini ribs: all seams are internal for a cleaner surface.

Choice of comfy 12mm aramid or Superlight dyneema risers.

New BC riser control system for better control and stability at high speeds.

Technical Specifications & Colors

SuSi 4 is certified from A to D and therefore covers all kinds of needs, pilot skills and practices. And this from very small surfaces already certified EN-A (18m2 flat) or B (14, 16m2 flat). Just use our tools on this page to find the one just for you!

AirDesign has a small one

We work hard on every model to be able to maintain the behavior of the glider in terms of flying, and also outside the flight envelope, for all the certified weights, starting by the smallest ones. The certification of most of our wings starts at 50 kg because we chose to announce only what we have actually tested. And above all, because we make sure that the glider is efficient, secure and fun at this load and this is as important as the certification itself! Our aim is to have light pilots find the same pleasure to fly as heavier ones.

The Sock Superlight

Yes, socks come in pairs! The Sock being our light and robust everyday cross-country harness, its sidekick is the light version. The Sock Superlight in AirDesign’s language.
The Sock Superlight – The pod harness that fits.

How to describe The Sock Superlight…

…in one word?
Smart!

…in one image?
The faces of your friends when they notice its weight and compactness

…in one dream?
Vol-biv is no longer a dream but a reality, put on your Sock SL and go for it!

Designer’s words…

The Sock Superlight is the light version of our everyday XC harness. The pair shares the sock-fit-concept: tight everywhere around you, with no pressure point, no blisters. Essentially introducing lighter materials, the Sock Superlight is for hike-and-fly enthusiasts for whom every gram counts, without compromising comfort and handling.

Did you know?

Your harness packing bag is also used to inflate the protector. You can inflate the protector by mouth too. So, the bag or your lungs? One of the two involves more bacteria but the choice is yours! In any case, these are the two methods we recommend for inflating the inflatable AirPillow protector.

Construction & Features

Superlight durable materials. Take good care and it will last for very long.

Stability when you need it, authority when you want it.

High efficiency AirPillow Superlight, inflatable back protector (from thighs to upper lumbar area).

Super simple and safe 5 point clip-in system.

Front rescue container with ergonomic handle prehension, shoulder connected risers.

Large side pockets, huge back container, battery pack sleeve and zipped nose pocket.

And so much more!

The AirPillow is a protector that inflates by mouth or, better still, using the packing bag created for this purpose. The necessary air pressure is easily measured thanks to the resistance experienced when supplying air with the inflation bag or thanks to your lungs. Like any inflated volume, the AirPillow will increase in pressure with altitude. The length of the hose has been designed to allow the pressure to be readjusted in flight with the clamp in order not to risk rupture by over pressure. As a reminder: PV = nRT, it looks classy in society!

The Sock – #KeepYourSockOn

They were laughing. He liked to talk to her about paragliding because she always had those fantastic ideas coming from nowhere. He was presenting her their new pod harness and was kind of hoping secretly that she would help to name it.

She was looking at him. He was so passionate when he talked about paragliding. His eyes were shining and she knew that he was kind of looking for her approval.

“This harness is so comfy, it is tight everywhere, it makes me think of a climbing shoe!” He said.

“Come on!” she interrupted him: “You cannot talk about a climbing shoe to present something as comfortable!

“And why not?”

“Because when I think of climbing shoes”, she made a face, “I only see painful toes, that’s why!”

He scratched his head, he looked a bit disappointed. For him, the image of the climbing shoe stuck well to the product: stiff and comfortable, and above all so precise! Yet he suddenly had this terrible vision of his feet after a multi-pitch route. She was damned right.

She could feel he was annoyed. He was thinking while looking at his feet. She noticed he was wearing mismatched socks. One was covered by bright limes, the other was blue with fluffy clouds. She looked at her socks. They were decorated with red strawberries.

She had an idea but decided to create a diversion. She kissed him and said with her sexy French accent: you can keep your socks on…

Designer’s words…

The specifications for The Sock were as long as top model legs but we wanted a harness as simple as flip-flops. Sticking to our philosophy, The Sock is light, comfy and robust. The Sock is a versatile product offering the most efficient feel in the smallest packed volume.
