Shared joy is doubled joy!

Shared performance is doubled performance!
As most biplace wings on the market are low B concepts, we heard of the demand for a high performance wing, that is stylish and a joy to fly with.
So here is the RONDO: a high aspect ratio High B wing!
The performance is amazing: you need a high aspect ratio 2 liner to keep up to shoot detail photos!

RONDO Technical Features

With 58 cells, mini-ribs and aspect ratio of 5.7, the RONDO is high end B.

But beyond that, we have developed new technology around NITINOL rods!
The new neoprene padding on the leading edge distributes the pressure of the Nitinol rods over a larger area and makes the wing nose significantly more robust against abrasion.
Nitinol in general is offering very easy packing and low stress by being very form stable. Of course the takeoff behavior is outstanding: a must have for a modern biplace wing.

The RONDO is using a new type of “double reef” brake system. Never ever the brake pressure on a tandem was that low, with still having full feedback and control!

On top of the “TO DO” list was “low weight”: we introduced a new, extremely efficient and form stable internal structure. The diagonal fingers are split into narrow stripes with additional tapes. The internal camera views make you feel like being in an old huge cathedral: wide open, weightless bows: check it out!
Finally the big size of the RONDO (certified up to 240kg) is still below 7kg!

RONDO Designer’s Note

As we began with the new biplace project, we wanted to do something outstanding, that will set the margin for the next years.
The whole development of the RONDO took as a long time, but we wanted to be as careful as possible. We even already made a certification load test in advance to be able to have pre serial wings been tested out there in the wild.

We integrated the feedback of the pro pilots into another step of evolution. We experienced that we have found a super efficient solution to the “deep spiral” problem, many biplace wings have. The challenge is, offering super high agility and no stable deep spiral (which leads to a fail in certification tests). So the RONDO is offering an extreme good handling, still being easy in the spiral.

We made lots of takeoff test with video analysis to be sure to have best inflating wing in that class. Now the RONDO is not only inflating extremely fast: it is rising up perfectly, and because of the superb performance: lifting you off the ground easily.

The DUAL 2 is an entirely new design. It took us years of development and many prototypes to perfect, but we believe it is a significant leap forward from the original Dual, which itself was a benchmark EN-B tandem. It’s a pleasure to launch and to fly, with light, intuitive BGD handling and an outstanding sink rate, making it a 'top of the stack' performer. Big ears are effective and easy to use, and we’ve added a new big-ears locking system.

We know commercial pilots need tandems that last well so we’ve made the DUAL 2 robust and strong, with durable cloth throughout and all-sheathed Kevlar lines. The trimmers have easy-grab plastic balls and easy to replace webbing.

We recommend the 38m² - medium size to pilots who weigh less than 75kg, naked.

With effortless launching and a smooth, relaxed feel, the DUAL 2 performs in harmony with pilot and passenger

Target
Remember that feeling, the first time your feet leave the ground and you are soaring, feet in the clouds, viewing the world from a different perspective? If you could bottle that feeling and share it around … that’s what the DUAL 2 is for – sharing the joy of flight!

A clean take-off is absolutely critical to a safe and successful tandem flight. The DUAL 2 takes the load quickly and the short run required is a huge step forward for passenger safety. We’ve made the Dual 2 in three sizes: the 42m², 40m² and the 38m² covering all-up weights 100-220kg.

Designer’s notes
With this project I wanted to make a tandem that is ridiculously easy to launch as not all passengers are willing runners, but I didn’t want to sacrifice that light and sensitive handling that was so highly praised in the original DUAL. To achieve this we designed a whole new single plastic shark nose just for this wing. In the air the handling is a delight and thermalling is outstanding. The whole team are very happy with the outcome. It’s a pleasure to fly, and a dream to launch: two steps and away!

Highest durability tandem we have ever made, with extensive reinforcements for longevity.

Winglets & increased arc for improved sail tension and handling, with roll stability.

The Magnum 4 is designed for the professional pilot. It has the shortest ground roll of any wing we have flown so far, making for impressively simple launching characteristics. The pilot and passenger are airborne much faster than before, and the glide, speed, and sink rate have been vastly improved over preceding models.

The handling is agile and low-effort, and the same characteristics which make the launch so easy translate to the landing as well — with ultra-precise pitch control and a high resource flare, the crew has never landed so gently.

Years of airfoil research have yielded an excellent balance of solidity and flex, efficiency and damping in the Magnum 4’s new profile.

A new higher AR of 5.45 improves efficiency & performance.

Thanks to the higher efficiency profile, pilot & passenger are rapidly airborne with the shortest ground roll, ever.

Double 3D shaping in the leading edge further improves efficiency

New shaping of the panels at the trailing edge has created improved feel in the brakes, and incredible handling.

New diagonals and internal structure at the rear chord reduce deformation in turbulence, making the wing more comfortable.

It’s the most durable tandem we have ever made, with extensive rib reinforcement to reduce deformation on the bias, making the Magnum 4 the best value of any wing we know of (lowest cost per flight of any tandem).

Winglets, to increase the arc for better sail tension and sharper handling while maintaining roll stability – an important element of crew comfort.

A new big-ear kit system is independent of the spreaders and allows large big ears with a simple input, with push-button release.

A new 44m size increases comfort across the spectrum of passenger weights, conditions, and flying sites.

The extensive amount of technology inherent in the Magnum 4 has made for the easiest and least technical tandem flying we have ever enjoyed. The simplicity and low-stress nature of the launch, flight, and landing, have brought a new level of joy and comfort to our tandem flying, and we are excited to hear professional pilot’s feedback on this new design.

If you have a lightweight tent (for two), two -10 degree sleeping bags, a gas burner, a couple of reversible harnesses, a GPS tracker and two flexible jobs, the Dual LITE is for you. The Dual LITE is designed specifically for adventurous teams. Its performance, safety, and weight have been optimized for long vol-bivouac flights and hike-and-fly.

There is only one size 40 sq m and only one color choice, Tulip.

Extra water, food or wine could make up for the almost 1.1 kg of weight we have skimmed off the Dual (without losing much durability). With a mix of carefully allocated 27, 34, and 40 gramme cloth the EN-B certified Dual LITE feels like its parent – power steering, loads of feedback, and efficient characteristics.

BRUCE’S NOTES

Just after Tyr was born I was trying to convince Arna that paragliders are as nice as hang gliders. I wanted to charm her into the sport with a lovely XC flight. We took off one sunny morning from Séderon, France and headed into the heart of the Vercors. It was a glorious flying day. We soared low and slow along cliffs and over grazing deer. We caressed the cumulus clouds with our wing tip. I wanted to show her that flying a slow aircraft could be really rewarding. She enjoyed it so much she was constantly attempting to back/front-seat-pilot the tandem. She soon realised it was best to just let go and enjoy the strong thermals.

80km and five hours later, slightly sore but glowing, we landed in La Chapelle-en-Vercors next to a perfect little restaurant where we had dinner. Arna now flies an EN-B Wasp and is a part owner of BGD. I think I convinced her.

I designed the Dual LITE to help convince friends/partners/spouses that paragliding is a convenient, adventurous sport. Whether it is a simple hike and fly or a long Vol-bivouac expedition the Dual LITE delivers.

Like the Dual, the Dual LITE is a wing that has a very clean leading edge (Cord Cut Billow) making the low cell count (50 cells) feasible thus reducing the weight, line consumption and complexity of the paraglider. I think the Dual LITE really benefits from the Dual’s renowned light handling. Its launching characteristics even surprised me – the wing floats up with very little effort from the pilot.

TESTED TO WORLD RECORD STANDARDS

The Swift Max is designed for experienced tandem pilots who seek a light-weight high-performance XC machine for personal tandem adventures. The Swift Max is a new concept for OZONE and is very different to our Magnum series, which is designed to satisfy the needs of a commercial tandem operation. The Swift Max is based on the popular Swift series, and features all of the same performance features including the new SharkNose, an advanced arc, and low drag line plan.

The post Ozone Swift Max appeared first on Red Tail Paragliding.

The Swift Max is a world record holding, high performance tandem, designed for XC and soaring flights. Based on a similar design philosophy to the Swift4, the SwiftMAX offers the glide performance, sink rate, handling, and speed normally associated with solo wings.

The SwiftMAX’s moderate aspect ratio, combined with the compact and predictable handling made possible by the SharkNose, offers an impressive blend of ease of use, lightness, and performance. Thanks in part to its light construction, the Swift Max’s launch characteristics are excellent with an easy-up inflation.

The use of lightweight materials and construction techniques keeps the overall weight down to a minimum (7kgs). This gives the wing an agile, responsive feel in the air whilst aiding safe recoveries from collapses and other departures from normal flight.

The SharkNose profile offers a level of performance and solidity unique amongst tandems. The wing cuts through turbulence in a solid, predictable manner, and is very resistant to collapse throughout the speed range. The trimmers have a wide useable range; top speed is relatively fast for a tandem, yet the wing remains solid and efficient, ideal for long transitions between thermals or pushing forward into wind. Also, thanks to the SharkNose, it is particularly resistant to stall or spin.

The OZONE R&D philosophy of True Performance focuses a lot of attention on each wing’s Aspect Ratio. The AR of the SwiftMAX was intentionally kept moderate, for the security and ease of use expected of a tandem wing. Certified EN C, the SwiftMAX is designed for experienced tandem pilots who want a wing to impress their friends and family with. It is not intended to replace the Magnum2 which remains the reliable workhorse for professional tandem pilots.

During the SwiftMAX development phase, the wing design was subjected to rigorous real-world testing. OZONE R&D team member, Honorin Hamard, together with his partner, Karine Gras, flew the Swift Max 407km in Brazil, smashing the world tandem distance record. The duo spent almost 11 hours in the air and reported that despite the intense conditions, the Swift Max delivered a smooth ride. If you are an experienced tandem pilot who wants to fly XC, then we hope this is the wing for you.

The SwiftMAX does not ship with spreaders included. Please speak with your dealer to choose the set of spreaders that best fits your needs.

TECH
Fifteen years of lightweight R&D has allowed us to apply some exciting new construction and design technology to our range of light wings, and the Wisp benefits from much of the same features found in our high-performance adventure wings. With an optimised cell-count and carefully chosen profile, the Wisp is aerodynamically clean and structurally stable. The reduced sail drag, optimised line layout, and low overall line consumption all combine to increase performance without compromising safety and ease of use.

LIGHT DESIGN & MATERIALS
Weighing in at just 4.4kgs, the Wisp is a full-size 38m2 tandem with the pack volume and weight of a solo wing. The hike is now as pleasurable as the flight, making it easier than ever to share the joy of alpine paragliding adventures with your favourite people.

The Wisp uses a combination of the well-proven Dominico 20D and Porcher Skytex 27gr cloths along with innovative construction techniques to create an exciting ultra-light wing with maximum levels of passive safety. Currently, it is the lightest certified double surface tandem wing.

MOUNTAIN LAUNCHES
Launching is a critical part of every flight, especially tandem, and especially at less-than-perfect mountain sites. The Wisp benefits from our R&D Team’s vast experience with professional tandem flying, and this part of the development carefully focused on. The Wisp is easy and low stress to launch. The risers are simple, colour coded, and uncluttered, feautring an innovative lightweight trimmer system that can be adjusted in the air to suit conditions and wingloading. It inflates smoothly without hanging back, even in zero wind conditions. In stronger winds it rises progressively without the tendency to overshoot.

IN FLIGHT
In the air, low sail weight keeps inertia to a minimum, making the wing pitch stable. The controls are light, with minimal effort needed for inputs. Due to the planform and sail tension, the Wisp has a very compact feel in the air, absorbing turbulence and transmitting information in a cohesive, understandable, and confidence-inspiring manner. The handling is fun and responsive – turns are easy to initiate and the wing maintains bank angles whilst thermalling with minimal input.
